Wilgot Alexander Olsson, was a Swedish artist belonging to the Gothenburg Colourists, who believed that 'to paint is primarily to compose and reproduce in colour. If the colour does not play the first role, it may indeed be art but not painting'.
Olsson started his career working at the port in Gothenburg but illness made it impossible for him to continue. It was after this he decided to become an artist, studying with Sigfrid Ullman and Nils Nilsson in Valand, taking in study trips to Europe.
His work was exhibited frequently in Gothenburg and Stockholm, and consisted of portraits, simple landscapes, still lifes and nature studies often in subtle and elegant colour schemes. This nuanced colouration grew in intensity in his later works.
Olsson's work is represented at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm and the Gothenburg Art Museum amongst others.
