Oil on panel by Ove Olson (1903-1975)

Signed & dated '71

Framed 36x41cm

Olson was a Swedish-French painter. He studied art in Malmö and in Paris, at the Académie Scandinave in 1929.  Amongst his circle of friends were Albin Amelin and Sven Erixson. When World War 2 broke out, Olson was one of five Swedes who voluntarily enlisted for France. He fought with his infantry regiment in the Ardennes, Meuse and Verdun. He was taken as a prisoner of war for 2 years until he was sent home to France after a leg injury. After the war, he was honored with the French War Cross and the red ribbon of the Legion of Honor, and later he was also awarded the City of Paris's cultural prize.

After the war, he exhibited separately several times in Paris, and in Sweden, at 'Modern Art in the Home' and The Skåne Art Association. Olson is represented at several museums and galleries in Paris and Sweden, including The National Museum of Sweden and The Institut Tessin in Paris.
